Description
ANTIQUE PORCELAIN WHIPPET GREYHOUND DOG FIGURINEPeriod:
late 19th - early 20th century
Dimensions:
14" (36 cm) tall, 8" (20 cm) long from nose to tail, 5" (14 cm) wide. The pup weighs 2 lbs 3 oz (~1 kg) unpacked.
Description:
absolutely cute and very lovable whippet/galego/greyhound dog porcelain figurine, sitting, no base, tail curled around hind legs, raised. Head tilted a bit down, b
rown eyes looking straight. Just look at those eyes!:) The back is painted light brown while the front is white.
The doggo is unmarked - couldn't find out what country he's from, but
very small hole at the bottom looks very much like old Staffordshire dog figurines (Just recently I sold a Staffordshire pug and was intensively researching the matter of age of those famous figurines, finding out that small hole is direct proof of old while a quarter-sized or larger hole is a sign of modern production). Also he looks like Italian white whippet figines, albeit hand painted.
It will definitely enhance any room decor: living room, family, bedroom or display in the entry hall. A feast for a collector of porcelain dog figurines.
Back Stamp/Mark:
no mark
Condition:
Very Good Antique Condition with cracked and repaired tail, please see the last picture. This crack is visible only when you look at the dog from the back, when he faces you or you look at him from either side, you don't see it. Selling as is.
Thank you for your interest!
