Description
One ounce plus baggie of amadou for you primitive fire starting people. Flint and steel or whichever method you use. To best make tinder from this amadou according to my source it is best to soak it in potassium nitrate or saltpetre which is how it was done centuries ago.Using ash:
After boiling for 4 hours
Than softly hitting it with a stick ( not to hard and not to much, flattening and loosening the fibers )
En re boiling again for 6 ours
Then drying
And when dry
I put it in a hot solution of 50% ash ( birch ) in 50% water
I let it sit there for 7 days
After drying, it takes a spark from flint and steel
In this manner there is no need for salpeter/nitrate
Using saltpeter:
Progress report :
The last batch I boiled for 3 to 4 ours
Than after drying for a few days
I re boiled with 25 grams of saltpetre in +/- 5 liters of water for 3 ours
And until half the water was gone
After 5 days of drying I was able to test
And yes, now it will take the spark from flint and steel
